The part of the installation
that leaves no margin for error

Networks, transformer substations and grid connection. This is the highest-risk part of our work, and therefore the one with the strictest rules on training, equipment and signage.

The risk

The discipline where a mistake
allows no second attempt

Medium voltage has its own rules, distinct from those of low voltage: a different training regime, different protective equipment and different signage, all set out in law.

The team entering a transformer substation has specific training and wears certified arc-flash workwear, category III PPE.

Medium voltage with our own team
This part is not subcontracted. The people who build the transformer substation and run the tests are ours, and they are the ones who answer if something fails at commissioning.
What goes underground stops being visible
Cable, cable route and depth are photographed with a positional reference before the trench closes. After that, checking means digging.
The connection depends on third parties
This is the phase where schedules slip, because it does not depend on us alone. We report dates once confirmed, and name what is at risk while there is still time to react.

In detail

What sits
behind each one

01

Transformer substation

We work in medium voltage with our own team, without subcontracting. Installation, standard signage and testing are completed before commissioning, because afterwards there is no margin left to discover what was missed.

  • Our own team qualified for medium-voltage work
  • Standardised signage and lock-out procedures documented
  • Testing completed before commissioning, not after
02

Buried network

What goes underground can no longer be inspected. Cabling, cable routes and depths are therefore photographed before the trench is closed, and the layout is handed over as a drawing to whoever has to intervene later.

  • Photographic record with positional reference before backfilling
  • Depths and separations in accordance with the applicable standard to the network type
  • Layout handed over as a drawing, still usable years later
03

Grid connection

The connection depends on third parties, and it is where schedules usually slip. We handle the process with the network operator and report dates as they are confirmed, not as they are hoped for.

  • Process handled with the network operator through to live connection
  • Test documentation prepared for inspection
  • Dates reported once confirmed, with anything at risk named

Questions that deserve
a direct answer

Do you work on medium voltage?

Yes, with specifically trained personnel and certified arc-flash protective workwear to EN IEC 61482-2.

Who is the operator of record?

Not always WChampion. On a turnkey project the owner of the installation becomes the operator, and the door sign says so.

What signage is mandatory on a transformer substation?

A danger-of-death warning on the door, the door locked, and access restricted to suitably trained personnel.

Do you handle grid connection?

Yes, in coordination with the network operator. The timescale for that connection depends on the operator, not on the works, and is indicated in the proposal.
